Some nice stuff I’ve seen

h1 Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

How do. quick post on some nice bits and pieces I’ve seen today.
Over at Equator the Flash monkeys have been beavering away (can monkeys beaver? – answers on a post card please to the usual address) on some cool little sites for HTC – you’ll have seen their advert on the tv for the HTC Magic I’m sure.

Anyway here’s a list of sites they’ve been doing:

(my hand is now sore with cutting and pasting – Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v – must be getting old)

Alongside this the guys at Flock (my second favourite browser after Chrome) who I follow on Twitter were mentioned over at CNN alongside some other browsers – including the Kid Rocket Web Browsers (designed for weans – which I’m going to try out on my own little bundle of energy later this week).

Also thought I should say I was messing about with a Personality Test – am little bit spooked by my results.

I’m sure my link to content ratio is a touch on the high side but hey I cant please the Google gods every day.

Steve McLaren Interview (with Dutch Accent)

h1 Friday, August 15th, 2008

Funniest thing in ages. Steve McLaren should do comedy. It would appear that he can’t speak English without a really strange accent. Am sure the Dutch will be thinking he’s an idiot already – having only been in the country for a matter of weeks he’s already mucking it up. And not even an umbrella in sight. Idiot.

HTC Cruise

h1 Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

One fo the dudes upstairs just sent me this microsite he’s been working on. I think its kinda cool – esp as its in Russian and I have no idea what it says.

The HTC Cruise, I’m away to get hypnotised by the big floating hand.

Bruce Lee Vs McDonalds

h1 Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

I’ve been pleased to see that McDonalds have been hopelessly flogging dead horses with ‘new’ partners and have relaunched this years Mcdonalds Monopoly. This time they’ve partnered with HMV – god knows how they got suckered into this but hey there is one born every minute.
On an even more pleasing note across in the East, not Edinburgh I was thinking further east, there is a chain of takeaway food joints that are sporting an art print style image of Bruce Lee as their emblem.
Bruce Lee Fast Food

Who would win the fight?

My first thought is would cartoon Bruce beat the living daylights out of Ronald McDonald or would Bruce live up to his billing and rip the red nosed dude into pieces and then dance about wearing his clown shoes.
Who do you think will win the battle between Bruce and Big Red Ron?

What is the Environmental Impact of Bottled Water?

h1 Thursday, February 21st, 2008

On Monday I watched a Panorama documentary on BBC 1 which was about the environmental impact of consuming bottled water. And for once I found Panorama to not really be giving me the facts.
In the first half they went through statistics and figures about how bottled water was affecting the environment, all of which were supported by figures and statistics. And then folowing this the second half descended into what seemed to be based on tenuous linkage and some causal relationships that seemed to be over simplified.

  1. Paying £21 for a bottle of water does seem excessive – but if idiots will pay for it who gives a damn
  2. The claim that London tap water is drinkable – no it’s not! – its vile.
  3. Plastic bottles litter the UKs coast and are causing environmental damage. Seems reasonable – they float and coasts are surrounded by seas and coeans that contain currents which pushes anything that floats toward the coast. Find the idiots who throw the bottles away and give them a slap or put them in jail
  4. The guy presenting it goes to Fiji – whilst earlier having highlighted the Carbon Footprint of bottled water. what was his carbon footprint in getting him and his crew to and from Fiji?
  5. Dirty water causes infection – yep seems reasonable. Water factory opens and people still get water bourne infections and illnesses. Hmm – is that not a governmental issue – and what did the Fijian government spend the money from this internationally available water – maybe improving the quality of the water supply would be a good start.

God – I’ve just ranted against Panorama. One of the greatest series of programmes that the BBC, who I love, have produced. The main reason being that I can’t agree with dodgy reporting that makes inference rather than having something factual to report. It was the equivalent to the BBC making a blog post…

Torrent Police are coming to get ya

h1 Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

It would appear that the UK government is thinking of developing legisaltion to stop you all from downloading pirated music/movies/programs from the Internet.

In a Jedi Mind Trick of a move they want Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to uncover who is illegally downloading files (I thought that was the role generally given to the police of FACT but hey what do I know). You’re palced on a three strikes and you’re out system!

Batter Up – ISP Pitching to Torrent Downloader

  • Strike OneThe Curve Ball - ISP tells you that you have been caught illegally downloading and to cease and desisit from sushc activity via email. Yep this is great – oh unless you’re me and don’t know why the hell your ISP made up an email address for you on their email system and you never access it – as you don’t even know where it is and no one is willing to tell you – Yep I’m with Virgin Media!
  • Strike TwoThe Fast Ball – ISP suspends your account as you’ve been caught illegally downloading again. Hmm – can you switch ISP at this stage. Maybe but you’ll probably find like having a bad credit rating and getting credit you’re going to have to pay an over the odds the connection.
  • Strrrriike ThreeThe Splitter – ‘you’re outta here’ – you get caught – again! You’re ISP removes your account. Oh well do I have a right to appeal – the old I had a virus that wasn’t being tracked excuse seems like one to keep in reserve.

So get ready to start batting those balls if you do download illegally! Batting practice is held every weekend at the Glasgow Barras between 10 and 4.

Monday Morning: these are the joys that never end

h1 Monday, October 22nd, 2007

On saturday, for the first time in what seems like ages, I took my wee boy to the football. Went to see Falkirk draw one all with Kilmarnock. Which will do fine – as Gretna got beaten so takes us one point closer to safety.

Anyway that aside some great links came in via RSS today (assuming the debacle over car parking ceases at some point soon I may post some mroe later on)

thats all for today! Later
