Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain play Miss Dy-na-mi-tee

h1 Friday, October 26th, 2007

As I sit here typing away attempting to escape the real world I discover a gem on an indie music blog. Its the Ukulele orchestra of Great Briatin (no I didnt know we had one of these either) covering Miss Dy-na-mi-tee and it rocks.

So 200K buys you an affiliate site and Theo Paphitis gets fleeced

h1 Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Yesterday I heard one of the fuinniest things in ages – Theo Paphitis paid 200 grand for 30% of an affiliate site. Colin sat and told me this while I looked on in awe – I thought he was making it up. I dont know if it was a rush of blood to the head of Mr Paphitis or a cunning ploy by a couple of shysters to get money out of him. Anyway this made me happy as the money I lost on Scotland against Georgia now looks like small potatoes compared to this.

Other people have been blogging about this also:

So for once I’m not alone it thinking that the worlds gone mad – am off to build a site, develop a widget and sell the whole bloody thing off and retire to St Kitts

Monday Morning: these are the joys that never end

h1 Monday, October 22nd, 2007

On saturday, for the first time in what seems like ages, I took my wee boy to the football. Went to see Falkirk draw one all with Kilmarnock. Which will do fine – as Gretna got beaten so takes us one point closer to safety.

Anyway that aside some great links came in via RSS today (assuming the debacle over car parking ceases at some point soon I may post some mroe later on)

thats all for today! Later

Radio4 perfect for a Friday

h1 Friday, October 19th, 2007

Every day is a good day when you know that Radio4 is still available. Its one of the greatest aspects of British radio, and British culture, that every day of the week you can hear Radio4, sometimes you even get the World Service which is one fo the only ways that unbiased journalism is delivered to the poorest and most repressed societies in the world – (the World Service was also responsible for releasing the first couple of Lemonheads albums outside of the US which is another feather in the cap).

Monday Morning Pics : Scotland 3 – Ukarine 1

h1 Monday, October 15th, 2007

Yet again Scotland won a fitba game – I’m getting a bit too used to us winning games and am starting to think ahead to next summer and investigate flights and hotels to Austria and Switzerland. All Scotland fans know this is a dangerous psychological place to be and is likely to be followed by abject pain when we manage to throw it away.
Saturdays game was the usual fare – we had huge periods of being under the cosh and somehow managed to win – we did have more possession than against France.

Kenny Miller Celebrates goal against Ukraine
Kenny Miller celebrating after scoring a goal – ok so it was a rip off of Boyds goal against Lithuania (I think) but who cares 1 – nil up and less than six minutes on the clock.
celebration of the second goal against ukraine
Lee McCulloch celbrates his outstanding curler into the top right corner – peach of a goal.
McFadden Scores - again
The wee man from Springburn scores – yet again – and puts the game beyond the Ukranians

So all these moments made me happy. And made a lot of people happy too I’m sure. All we need to do is beat Georgia and draw with Italy (or hope someone does us a favour and beats France). Its going to be a tough ask and could well in the glorious failure that Scotland are past masters at but even so. If anyone had told us we’d be in this position at the start of the qualifying campaign we’d have thought they were either:

  1. Off their head
  2. Drunk
  3. On day release
  4. Selection of the above

Friday Funday

h1 Friday, October 12th, 2007

Ah well its Friday again so that means letting lose with the smiles and the happiness once more in a random unfocussed kinda way. So heres somethings that made me smile this week.

  • http://www.lwsdg.co.uk/ – For some reason they have a copyright notice on the website that extends to 2010! Why on earth they have one like that I have no idea but humourous none the less.
  • 7 Secrets to SEO Success – list of the top seven tactics that’ll help you get your site ranked in the major search engines. have nagging suspiscion that it could well be true :p
  • Chicken cause traffic Chaos in Central Scotland – Well I start driving to work and find the motorway slip road out of action, so I sit for ages in traffic trying to get to Glasgow entrance at Stirling :thats closed aswell. So I have to drive from Stirling to Denny – Motorway closed again. then move back home to work from home as it was highly unlikely I’d get to Glasgow. On the way home I hear motorway is closed due to the escape of 3,000 chickens. Yep – that really made my day!!!

Mr Happys Wednesday Sounds

h1 Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I was going to rant about the death of ‘indie’ music but that wasn’t happy so today I thought I’d go on about how ‘indie’ music is still good.

In yesterday Metro, or maybe the day before, there was an interview with Underworld (‘Lager, lager, lager’ – and all that). Which praised the Internet for having reinvigorated msuci. They’re right in many ways: I know every two bit 14 year old pop-punk band and his father have generated a myspace page or some other wee site here and there and most are naff. but some are still great and invigorating.

One of my current favourites are the Skud Puppetz. A bunch of weedgie kids (they might be allowed to drink now) who do punk music – and do it quite well. they’ve one of the funniest, and best, drummers I’ves seen in a long time – think Keith Moon crossbread with Cousin It from the Addams family and you’re getting close.

Anyway further to that, on a musical tangent, if anyone wants even better Glasgow music there are some nice places to look. If you go to starvin’ marvins at lunch you’ll normally find Stuart from Belle and Sebastian buying his lunch – that Brit awards must not have bought the fame or money that beckoned and even doing the theme tune for Teachers didnt make taht much cash. Or get over to Teenage Fanclubs website and steal yourself some MP3’s of the ‘Fannies before they got old and put too many acoustic guitars on every track.

So yeah indie music aint dead – maybe dying and in need of ressusciatation. Maybe the weedgies will save us all

Below are my favorite pieces of cover art ever – some of the records could be rubbish but the covers themselves are great. Read the rest of this entry
