Impactful in more ways than one

I guess most cinema goers at the moment would have seen the new advert by Mother for Plane Stupid. What’s refreshing is that a pressure group is using advertising to get their message across and secondly, a bloody great advert (in more ways than one). Certainly makes you think about the impact of emissions in this age of dirt cheap air flights. Someone has to pay for the rock bottom prices and this advert tells you who!

What is the cost of cheap air fares?

Our 10th birthday party

Who would have thought that Equator was born over 10 years ago? It seems only yesterday that our agency began life working out of James’ flat.  A lot has changed since then not to mention now having 50 odd staff, some fantastic clients and a great new office. So to celebrate the occasion (as well as moving into our new office) we decided to throw a wee party to celebrate. It was a great evening attended by clients, colleagues and hopefully some people we will work with in the future.

The Equator guys delivered ‘10 insights you never knew about online marketing’, which was presented by 10 people in 10 minutes (all against the clock!)

The guys from Google flew over from Ireland for a little presentation into the future of search and the evening was topped off with a great set from a local comedienne.

After that we all headed to Mamasan in Glasgow and ended for some about 4am. I am far too much of a light weight for that now and was home safe for a very respectable 1am.

So thanks to everyone who attended and here is to the next 10 years! By which time I am sure I will be in bed by about 10pm!

The art of pitching

Whether you love it or hate it – pitching is an inextricable part of agency life. So why do so many people thrive in this environment and others wilt and die? I guess there are a couple of reasons – first and foremost you must believe that your agency is the very best and that your Big Idea is the one that will solve a client’s objectives.

Next comes the art of pitching itself. In this camp come the naturals – those extroverts that thrive in the limelight. Unfortunately I am not one of them. So what do the likes of me do? Practice, practice and then practice some more. The more that we are exposed to standing up and presenting; the more comfortable we feel when it comes to doing it for real.

You not only need the confidence to stand up but also know your stuff. I came across this article about Steve Jobs’ approach to presenting and if we all took a couple of nuggets from it then we would be well on the way to becoming a pitching ninja!
