Radio4 perfect for a Friday

Every day is a good day when you know that Radio4 is still available. Its one of the greatest aspects of British radio, and British culture, that every day of the week you can hear Radio4, sometimes you even get the World Service which is one fo the only ways that unbiased journalism is delivered to the poorest and most repressed societies in the world - (the World Service was also responsible for releasing the first couple of Lemonheads albums outside of the US which is another feather in the cap).

So in the last couple of weeks on Radio 4 we’ve had:

  • Columbo Special - had Peter Falk and the directors of Columbo discussing what makes Columbo great - Fantastic
  • Discussion on the Rights of Kings - Melvin Bragg kicks on with a great piece of broadcasting/discussion on the historicakl impact on the heavenly annoited Kings rights.
  • Sri Lanka Vs England Cricket on Test Match Special - Genius. Pure Genius. Get a Scottish cricketer, Dougie Brown, to commentate on the English tour of Sri Lanka and pair him up with a female commentator - whose name escapes me just now - and you have one hell of a cricket commentating partnership. Almost as good as when cricket commentator (in)famously stated “The bowlers Holding the batsmans Willie”
  • Genius with Dave Gorman - Did you ever have a genius idea that society wouldn’t accept. Great ideas recently included charging people to dig your allotment as it would be cheaper than the gym and equally as effective. Creating a loom that use household detritus collected in the vacum to create clothes. And as ever Dave Gorman is hugley amusing
  • Yesterday in Politics - 8.30 AM Tuesday through Saturday - Factual, fun and all the time never taking politics too seriously but at the same time ensuring that at least a part of the fourth estate continues to rule
  • The Shippping Report - ever since the BBC did away with decent, informative, visuals for new reports on TV many fishermans wives have had to revert to using the Shipping Report on Radio4 LW. Important public service which ensures that families know whats going on at sea, fishermen get upto the minute weather information and we get battered fish with our chips after twelve pints.

Oh well room 101 it aint but Radio4 should certainly be in room fantastic.
