Stanley loves Bodoni

Stanley with his typeface

We just got a great gift for our new (5 day old) son Stanley. He now has a new favourite typeface - Bodoni. He especially likes the way its generous curves give it a friendly appearance that balances the officiality that the serifs give the face. I told him that its designer Giambattista Bodoni who was known as the King of Printers designed

Lunablocks - make your own life-sized Lego furniture

This is amazing - I’ve dreamed of this day! I just wonder how long the real Lego company lets thes stay in production. It’s something they should really do themselves though. Imagine you could buy the trees and things too!

Louis Kahn house

It’s being sold by some mad person. It’ll only cost you between 2 and 3 million dollars. The down side it only has one bedroom. It is however exceptionally beautiful.

The first chair

I was talking about chairs today (as one often does) and the question of who invented the chair came up. An interesting question I thought, because it’s one of those things that these days is so banal that it’s hard to imagine it ever having been invented.
We could alway sit, but there must have been [...]

Yup y’all!

Indian Thriller

I really did find this by accident today - absolutely genius from start to finish. Who needs Michael Jackson when you’ve got class like this. Sit back, take a sip of your tea and prepare to spit it out again…

How to be creative

Ever wondered how to be creative. I have to say that I do with every new brief. I’m a bit scared that like some sort of ancient martial art myth that finding the knowledge will kill the ability. Ho Hum.
This guy knows. But it appears he’s retained the ability.
Let me give you a taster and [...]

Sorry, but I had to put this up here. One of my absolute favourite pointless YouTube clips. This little chap’s brightened the lives of more than 9 million people.

Social shopping again

I’ve looked into this a little more and there are quite a few interesting sites that are worth a squizz at. They are all from the enabler camp rather than online retail businesses in their own right but provide interesting features nevertheless.
I’m just going to chuck in the urls though as I’m quite lazy and [...]

Gordon Bennett!

As predicted I lost interest in my own cool wall in only 1 week. I remembered it in the shower this morning while thinking how much I enjoyed being really pissed up by 7 o’clock on friday. By 10 o’clock I’d already lost my voice on the karaoke stage. It was a good night, but it [...]

The first Kool Wand - It’s Zooper!

Ok, ja, today is the first Cool Wall I’m going to do. The first of many - if I can avoid losing interest really quickly and just writing random shit or nothing at all, the clock ticking away as I stare at the TV with my mouth hanging open and a small dribble on the corner of my [...]

Full of Christmas chair!

Woo hoo, I got a chair for Christmas. I know you don’t care - I think you should be jealous but you’re not are you. My lovely new chair is not an old classic that you’ll recognise but it is from the company that still lives and breathes the thinking of one of the greatest designers/architects [...]

Rebirth of the wingback

It wasn’t long ago that the idea of a wingback type chair would have been far too olde worlde to be considered in anyway cool. I don’t if it’s because of my recent decampmant to the countryside or my advancing years, but recently there’s been a few zooper-kool examples surfacing around the place.
 Tom Dixon’s Wingback [...]

Viral news - I was right! Partly.

Having posted a few days ago about viral stuff and then read it back along with the comments, it was screamingly apparent that what I wrote is littered with holes. I suppose that’s good in a way - I wouldn’t have spotted the holes if I hadn’t put the words down in the first place.
The [...]

Happy breast cancer awareness month

An issue that’s close to the hearts of girls and boys alike.

Viral making you ill?

Let Bob Dylan say it for you
What is Viral Marketing and how do you do it?
I’ve just had a brief put on my desk to create a viral. The first flake in the annual snowstorm of seasonal viral requests.
Obviously it’s not just during the festive period that viral breaks out it’s becoming an everyday phenomena. [...]

Another introduction - Say Hello to Mabel

This is Mabel. A sad old saggy bug that was the first four wheels I owned. We learned to drive together - her graunching and me smashing her into the back wall of the garage and scraping her down the side of the house.
We travelled up and down the country many times over the years. [...]

Reader, Michael Kelly. Michael Kelly, Reader.

Let me introduce you to Michael Kelly whose site, whilst unattractive at first glance, offers up surprising insights into life, love and fantasising about women drinking tea.

It always starts the same way

It always starts the same way. I am in the garden airing my terrapin Jetta when he walks past my gate, that mysterious man in black.
‘Hello Roy,’ I say. ‘What are you doing in Dusseldorf?’
‘Attending to certain matters,’ he replies.
‘Ah,’ I say.
He apprises Jetta’s lines with a keen eye. ‘That is a well-groomed terrapin,’ he [...]

~ Some of the people who were there - sorry, I should have taken a photo
Thank you everyone for your input this morning in our Friday Big Cuddle. I think everyone’s comments were really positive and if we all begin to think in this way and make space on projects for the things we talked [...]

If I had a million pounds

I was chatting the other day when the conversation turned to why on earth people who win the lottery exhibit such a lack of imagination when spending their windfall.
The conversation then turned, rather predictably I’m sorry to say, to what I would do if I won the lottery. It turned out that this is one [...]

The Goddess

Meet the Goddess. Like a real Goddess she does what she wants to do. Like a real Goddess sometimes she’s a goer and sometimes she site demurely in the driveway. Like a Goddess she sometimes rises at the front first and sometimes the back comes up first. Whatever she’s doing she’s jaw droppingly gorgeous to [...]

Like superman with his super hearing

What the hell is this Blog thing all about. Really. There must be millions of these bloody things all over t’internet and loads of voices waffling their own personal brand of nonsense. Looking at them makes you feel a little like superman with his super hearing listening to everyone in the world. He must have [...]

Thonet bentwood cafe chair

You will have seen these and never really noticed them - at the time they were made they were hi-tech and are still gorgeous.

Chair 1

I want to put things on this page that I like. I like chairs - there, I said it. In fact I could go so far as saying I have a slightly wrong love for chairs - so I going to be really boring and put pictures of chairs up and you’re just going to [...]

Nice

In my mind Lamborghini has always translated as ‘maker of the most ludicrously outrageous cars’. The fact that recently they’ve been bought by Audi, on top of a bit of a scaredy survival instinct has softened the cars into being beautiful but not the kind of thing that kicks your eyes in the balls. That’s [...]

I found this little animation and thought i’d bung it in here partly in order to fight the battle to put a youtube video on here and partly as it’s brilliantly free and a little bit inspiring - ah lovely!
More nice things from Kristoferstrom

Thought for the day

It’s not just a bloody chair. Don’t sit on it, look at. Now sit on it. Oh baby, I want one.
